Volunteering FAQ
We need your help to make this a successful school year!
Why should I volunteer for the band program?
Volunteering supports the students in a big way, and ensures the success of our program. Your involvement helps with everything from performances and competitions to equipment and event logistics. Volunteers make hamburgers, sell concessions, set up and tear down events, wheel equipment onto the field, sell merch and more.
Do I need any special skills or experience?
Not at all! We welcome all volunteers regardless of experience. Whether you're handy with tools, really good at staying organized, or just willing to lend a hand when you have spare time, there’s a role for you.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
There’s a wide range of things you can do to help the band! You can:
-
Uniforms - ironing, repairing, cleaning, organizing.
-
Join the Roadies and be part of the prop building & handling, parking for events, and equipment transport
-
Chaperoning - make sure kids stay safe, get to where they need to be on time, stay hydrated and fed.
-
Event setup and tear down - we host a few big events each year and every pair of hands helps.
-
Concessions - the band handles concessions for a few football games, and at a small handful of our own events.
-
Ticket sales and other cashiering
-
Merchandise sales
-
Home Tournament, Winter Tournament & Spring Pops are all hands on deck events!
Have another skill that could help the band? Are you a graphics wizard, good with a camera? Reach out and let us know!
How much time do I need to commit?
The time commitment is completely flexible - whether you can volunteer during the day or night. Some volunteers help consistently throughout the year, while others are able to assist at events. Every bit of time makes a difference. If you are only available for one event, we are happy to have you!
Can I volunteer if I don’t have a student in the band?
Absolutely! We welcome parents, grandparents, friends, alumni, and community members. Anyone passionate about supporting our band, can volunteer.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Signing up is easy! Visit the volunteer section for upcoming opportunities to get started. Look out for volunteer sign up booths at band events or reach out to president@rbvband.org.
What if I can't volunteer my time, but still want to support the program?
If volunteering in person or behind the scenes isn't possible, you can still support the program through donations, by attending fundraisers and performances, shopping for band merchandise, spreading the word that the Band needs support or help us promote events through your social media. Every bit helps us reach our goals!
Can I volunteer with my friends or family?
Yes! Volunteering is even more fun with friends or family. We encourage group efforts, and it's a wonderful way to bond while helping out the band.
Are there any special requirements to volunteer?
Some roles like roadies, chaperoning, cashiering or food handling may require additional clearances or training. We'll guide you through any necessary steps to ensure everything runs smoothly, and you have the information you need to do your best.
What’s the biggest impact I can make as a volunteer?
Your presence and dedication supports the students’ success. Whether it's behind the scenes or out on the field, volunteering helps ensure our band has the resources and support needed to perform at their best. We literally cannot do this without you!
