ABOUT RANCHO BUENA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND COLOR GUARD
By putting up amazing performances in a variety of settings, Rancho Buena Vista High School Band and Color Guard has really built a reputation of excellence, and consistent greatness and it has earned them a privileged position of distinction. Rancho Buena Vista High School is a California Distinguished School and International Baccalaureate Organization World School located in Vista, California. Opened in September 1987, Rancho Buena Vista High School, often shortened locally to "RBV", "Rancho" or "The Ranch", is a comprehensive, public secondary school in the Vista Unified School District. The school's mascot is the Longhorn, the Texas Longhorn Cattle. Among the largest schools in San Diego County, with over 2,800 enrolled students, with a diverse student population in grades 9-12, Rancho Buena Vista High is one of the 572 World Schools in the United States (as of January 2008) offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Dr. Jose Villarreal is currently the school principal. Rancho Buena Vista Band and Pageantry also started its rich history in distinguished Longhorn Tradition in 1987. In the dirt fields of a new campus and borrowing practice time from nearby Vista High School - the program began. Rancho Buena Vista Band and Color Guard has consistently earned superior ratings at district festivals as well as numerous Sweepstakes awards at Marching Band Competitions. In addition to being invited to perform at the CBDA convention, the band has been invited to several other conferences including the CMEA southern border section winter convention in Point Loma and the BOA national concert band festival in Indianapolis. RBV music students are consistently represented in the CBDA All-State Honor Band, the SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Band, the University of Arizona Junior/Senior Southwest Honor Band and the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra. In 2002 RBV Band and Color Guard was selected by Warner Brothers to be featured in their marching band recruitment video “Here Comes a Marching Band.” That same year the program at Rancho Buena Vista Band and Color Guard were the featured cover story for School Band and Orchestra Magazine (SBO). In 2003 Rancho Buena Vista Band was a proud participant in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California and the following year, was selected for the CMEA Southern Border Section Winter Conference at Point Loma Nazarene University. In 2006, RBV Wind Ensemble was selected as a guest performer at the California Band Director's Association State Convention. During that same year, world famous composer David Maslanka was commissioned to write a piece for RBV High Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble consistently receives superior ratings at festivals, yearly. Rancho Buena Vista Band and Color Guard has also been chosen to be an ambassador for State of California and the United States of America in several international events. More recently, in 2017, the RBV Band and Color Guard was named the KUSI Marching Band of the Year for San Diego County. Our students have traveled to Australia, England, Scotland, The Peoples Republic of China, and most recently, Europe. Eric Weirather has celebrated over 22 years as the Band Director at Rancho Buena Vista High School. Our rich history continues to be written.
