Fundraising Activities
"Don't we all give enough, with our "Fair Share" Contributions?"
Know how you feel. Many of us have felt that way at one point or another. Unfortunately, the State of California does not provide California schools with enough money to fund our program. The district only covers the salary of our 1 band director. That's where the RBV Band Boosters, you and I, comes in!
Here are the costs RBV Band Boosters has to raise money to cover:
- Instructors and Clinicians
- Competition Entry Fees
- Music Arrangements
- Drill Writing
- Copyright Fees
- Instrument and Equipment Maintenance
- Uniforms
- Props
- Flags
- Semi-Truck Driver and Truck Rentals
- Awards Supplies and more.
We only collect about half our annual budget from parent's "Fair Share" Annual Contribution. To provide a great experience for our kids, we all must work together to raise the additional money needed.

Fundraising Activities at RBV Band and Color Guard
Student Account Fundraising, Sales
These fundraisers provide the opportunity for students to earn money directly into their personal band and color guard account.
Student Account funds can only be used for band related expenses like - "Fair Share" Contributions, Special Trips, Events and Logo'd Clothing. If students have a debt to the boosters, the money will automatically be credited towards the debt.
SCRIP is one of the easiest way to make money for your Student's Account. You, your friends and family buy gift cards at face value and you get between 1 and 10% back, which is put into your Student Account. Its a win-win - the retailer gets you buying things at their stores and you get a discount or rebate on those purchases which helps you cover your band costs. Contact Aletha Cross to be placed on the scrip email list.
Rummage Sale we plan to hold in both Spring and Fall. You bring your stuff and sell it yourself. $30 to the General Fund, and the rest to your student's account. Great way to put your unwanted items to a better use. In fall of 09, our families who participated raised over $1,600 for their student's accounts!
General Fundraising, Events
Events are another way we raise funds for our program. All events showcase Rancho Buena Vista Band and Color Guard student's skills, that our students practice so hard to acquire.
Home Varsity Football Games start in September of each school year. The featured half time show is, you guessed it, Rancho Buena Vista Band and Color Guard! The Band also sells food and drink at the home side Snack Bar during the game- "Concessions". It takes about 30 band parent volunteers per game to run the snack bar smoothly.
Rancho Buena Vista Premier Tournament is usually in the middle of October. This is the one tournament that RBV Band and Color Guard hosts, attracting 25-30 High School Bands from all over Southern California. Through concessions, entry fees, program advertising and vendor fees, we raise a considerable amount of funds. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year!
Each December we hold our Holiday Concert and Toys for Tots toy drive. The Holiday Concert is normally held at the Performing Arts Center at RBV High - donations are asked for. The music is great and includes a holdiay sing-a-along. Several vendors will be there selling Holiday Gifts - a percentage gets donated back to Band Boosters.
Toys for Tots is a social event the students to partake in. Each student is asked to bring a toy to donate. The students visit, dance and have snacks.
In late spring, during concert season, Round-Up and Showdown concerts are held. Parents, family and friends are invited to come watch the entire band and color guard perform a special show just for them in the RBV Gym - there is a small ticket charge. Watch the calendar for dates and details.
POPs Concert is held near the end of the year. During this 3-day Gala Event the Concert Bands will perform for parents, relatives, friends and the invited community. POPs always has a differing theme - with movie music or other popular music, played in concert style. This is our second biggest event of the year. Some of us die hard parents purchase tickets for all 3 nights. There is food, raffles and silent auctions. We need many many parent volunteers for this event to succeed.
General Fundraising, Sales
Tournament Program Ad Sales, Buick Open Ticket Sales, POPs Program Advertising, and more - the money generated goes directly into the Boosters General Fund.
Annually, our Premier Tournament is held in October at RBV. For the Tournament we sell Ads for our Tournament Program that lists start times and has pictures for our spectators. A committee is formed and a group of the parents get out in the community and sell ads to local businesses to go into the program. We always seem to come up short with volunteers for this one, yet this fundraiser has such huge potential- our goal is to sell $5,000 in ads. If you have the gift of gab let Bobby Cross know.
Century Club Golf Tournament Ticket Sales, formerly known as "Buick Open". This is a big professional golf tournament held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego every year. We start selling tickets in November and continue through January. The band makes about $10 a ticket. Our goal is to sell 500 tickets this year. We are working with local golf retailers to setup posters and to establish places for sitting to sell tickets. This fund raiser has large potential.
POPs Program Advertising is another great money maker. At the end of the school year we put our POPs Concert on over 3 nights. During the event, we give each patron a program showing the song line up for the evening. So a couple months before the show, we hit the streets and sell ads for our program to our local businesses. Our goal is to reach the $5,000 mark in 2013!
Working together we can provide a great band and color guard experience for our kids. We are always open to new ideas and new volunteers to help, contact Beth Price, Ways and Means Co-Chairs. Watch the calendar for dates and details.
